Red waxcaps
One
of the commonest of the red waxcaps is found from late summer to autumn. Small,
smooth, dry, orange or red caps appear, with narrow stems and can be seen in
grassland.

They are also known as King Alfred’s cakes as the black fruit bodies have the appearance of being burned. Appearance - 2-10 cm across, reddish brown at first, soon blackish. Surface - hard shiny. Habitat -on dead woods of ash, birch and sometimes other trees. Season –all year.
Appearance-3-8 cm high, yellow orange, tip blunt. Habitat- In grass in lawns parks etc. Season – late summer – autumn
