Our school is situated in the village of Lochaline, Morvern, overlooking the beautiful Sound of Mull. The school site, which is situated beside the fairly busy, single track A884 road, consists of several buildings, of varying ages.
The Buildings
The oldest building, which was the original village school, is now in the process of being refurbished. The upper story, which was the original School House, is being modernised and brought up to present day standards and work will be completed, hopefully, very soon. The ground floor, which houses the Nursery, has also been refurbished and in now in use by the children and staff. This has made the accommodation much more 'child friendly' and comfortable for the three and four year olds who attend.
This old stone building was 'added' to by the building of the 'New School' in 1887, and this building now houses the current G.P. room.
The children's toilets, staff room/office and a further two classrooms were added to the 'New School' in the early 1970's. These are wooden clad, flat roofed, Vic Hallam extensions and are now, sadly, beginning to show their age!
Also added to the school, was the canteen, about 1969/70. This is a completely seperate building but also of the same type of construction as the two 'new' classrooms
