Rahoy Hills Wildlife Reserve
On Thursday the 22nd of August 02, the whole school and I went to the Rahoy nature reserve. Steve Hardy, the Ranger, and Mairi, who is in charge of our tree nursery at the school, were there too. Ewan M, Euan L and I were told to be in front of the rest of the class.. We had just gone past Donald Kennedy’s house, when we saw a giant toad, it was really bulgy. Later on we stopped to look at some beautiful flowers then we walked on a bit and had something to eat. We crossed over the stile and went through a big bushy area. Jakob and Colin kept on going past us when they weren’t supposed to . After a while we stopped for lunch at Arienas beach then we went see a charcoal burners platform and Oscar fell in a deep bit of the burn. After that we went back down to the beach, Oscar , Jacob , Douglas , and I all played sword fights and I got bitten by a clegg it was very painful for a while.

Where Did The Rain Go?
On Thursday 22nd of August we went to the Rahoy Hills. It was a sunny day but not sunny enough to get rid of the midges. At least it was not raining.
When we got to Donald and Maggie’s house we saw a toad, it was brown and covered in warts and big. When we went past the toad we went up the hill, the harder way to get to the beach. We went up to a stile. It took ten minutes for every one to get over it. Maddy almost fell but she got down. Then we ran up the next stile which had lots of trees and plants beside it. It was almost overgrown. We had our break there. Mrs Russell showed us a plant called bog myrtle. If you scrunch the leaves up and rubb them on your skin it would stop the midges from biting. I took a lot because the midges were driving me crazy.
When I got over the stile I half fell through the trees. There was a rotted tree, which Euan and Gordon were kicking. We had to wade our way through bracken. It was over Flora’s head. Mrs Lindsay showed us a fungus it was called the bracket fungus. It was black with rings around it. When we went over the third stile we saw a corn kiln. A corn kiln dries corn, oats and grain. They needed corn dried so that it would keep over the winter to feed animals.
After we were down at the beach we went up the hill to a flat bit, which is called a charcoal burner’s platform. What they did with a charcoal burner is that they chopped down trees and put them on the platform and lit a fire then put turf on top. Then they looked after the fire until it went out and only the charcoal was left.
When we were going down to the beach we stopped at the stream to fill our bottles full of spring water. Then Lisa, Kerry, Flora and I made a cairn and I made another one by myself. Soon I had to go with Lisa, Flora and Janette to our violin lesson but as I was going, a rock rolled and hit my thumb. It took us about 25 minutes to walk back to the bus.

The walk up Rahoy Hills
On Thursday the 22nd of August, Lochaline Primary School went on a Nature walk with Steve Hardy up the Rahoy hills. When we got there we started our long walk along the road. We walked a fair bit along the road until we got to one of my big sister’s friend’s house the Kennedy’s. But we did not actually go in to their house. Just before the school entered their garden Steve and Mairi spotted a toad sitting right in the middle of the entrance. Everybody saw it, as they walked past it, sitting on the ground. About 5 minutes later we got to the first stile and I think everybody managed it easily. Then Mairi told us to run up to the 2nd stile. When we got there we got to eat one thing out of our packed lunch boxes. When we had finished we climbed over the style and through the bushes. We walked further on and we got to a gate and we went through it. The weather was good throughout the whole day. When we got to Arienas beach we all had our lunch. After lunch Colin and I built a dam in the water. Half way through the walk we saw a corn kiln. It was used to dry corn. When we went up the hill at Arienas we were standing on a charcoal burner’s platform.

Rahoy hills
I had just arrived at Rahoy hills and the midges were killing me. Every bite was like a bullet shooting into me. The weather was sunny and it was quite a long walk. I was talking about Keyblade with Douglas. Steve had caught 2 Spiders along with a one legged grasshopper and a butterfly. Jakob found a frog and Douglas found a hole.I saw a toad at the beach. I skimmed two stones and with Colin I made a dam. I had a stick fight with Euan. We packed up and went back. I got bitten to death by the midges.
OskarOn Thursday the 22nd August we all went for a walk up in the Rahoy Hills. The weather was warm and the midgies were out.
I put on my midge net and the midges didn’t even touch me. When we were on the walk we saw a giant toad in a garden that we went through. When we came across a corn kiln everyone wanted to go through it but only some got to go through it. The corn kiln was used for drying wet corn and when it was dry, they would give it to their animals and I wanted to go through it but we had to move on. I felt that the walk was good so far.
When we had finished our lunch we skimmed stones, it was fun then we went up to the charcoal burners platform. We didn’t know what it was called because we ran around but it is for burning trees and raking the fire made it in to charcoal that is why we use charcoal on barbeques because it is hot. When we got back down we went and got our things and went home. When we got back to school we went for a game. And I thought the walk was good.
