Primary 5's Science and Technology Day

On Tuesday 25th March, the primary 5's went to Caol to take part in science activities. First we had fun making band rollers. They were used by being wound up and then rolled along the floor. Something else we made was a thing for making pictures of Ostriches run, It worked like a cartoon with lots of pictures moving fast to make things look as if they were moving. After that we made an electricity circuit using a motor with a propeller on the end, wire and a solar panel instead of batteries. We went outside to use them and pointed the solar panel towards the sun to make the motor work. The last thing we made were balloon buggies. To make them we glued some wheels and axels onto a plastic base. We were told to cut up a 10cm piece of wood, then glue it onto the plastic base, then glue a piece of plastic with a hole in it onto the plastic base. Then we fed the end of a balloon through the hole, blew the balloon up and let it go and it shot off the end. We raced the band rollers and the balloon buggies. It was more than great fun.

PRIMARY FIVES DAY OUT

On Tuesday the 25th March p5s went out to a science fair at Caol primary school. In the bus everyone was wondering what we would be making. When we got there the school had a lot of children standing in the playground looking at us. In the hall there were boxes all along the stage for making special things like buggies and electrical things. First of all we had to make a thing that you twisted a stick and it would go round. Then you got two wires and a thing that you hold up to the sun to make electricity and a propeller. It was really hard when you had to make. The last thing we did was make a sand buggy and it was powered by a balloon and we had races against each other. The day was fun, hard work and exciting and we all really enjoyed it.

ON TUESDAY THE 25TH MARCH 2003 I WENT WITH THE REST OF THE P5'S TO CAOL SCHOOL TO DO SCIENCE ACTIVITIES AND SUCH. WE MADE 3 DIFFERENT THINGS ONE OF THEM IS CALLED A BAND ROLLER. THE BAND ROLLER WAS NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO MAKE. IT WAS ONLY MADE OUT OF WOOD DRAWING PINS AND RUBBER BANDS. THE 2ND WAS A SORT OF MOVIE THING THAT WAS MADE OUT OF CARD, PAPER A STRAW AND WOOD. THE LAST THING WAS A BALLOON BUGGY WHICH I MADE WITH METAL AXLES, PLASTIC WHEELS AND A PLACE FOR A BALLOON TO GO. THE DAY WAS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING DAYS OF THE YEAR.

A Fun Day Out for Primary Fives

On Tuesday the Primary Fives had a day out in Caol Primary School. When we got there we met lots of other children. We got to make something which rolls along the ground when you twist it tight enough. We also made a balloon buggy. If you blow the balloon up it will make the car go it was cool to see them go. After we made that we took a playtime with the Caol children. When we came back inside the adults were using glue guns to make ostrich runners. We all got pictures of ostriches and we had to cut holes in them. While we were letting the glue dry we had lunch but we only got ten minutes because we had to be back for 3.15. After lunch we finished them off and put sellotape round the sides so that the picture would stay on. When we had finished that we had a race with the balloon buggy and the wind roller. Lisa blew her balloon too big on the buggy and it popped. Everybody was laughing at it. when the races were finished we had to go home on the bus but the whole day was fun.

On Tuesday the Primary Fives went to a science workshop. We made six different things and we were allowed to take three of them home. The first one we made was an elastic band motor and it is made out of tacks, cardboard, one elastic band, a wooden straw, balsa wood and blu-tac. We also made a balloon buggy, which is made out of balsa wood, one balloon, two plastic boards, two metal rods and four plastic wheels. Lastly a cinematograph and it was made out of a wooden straw, a normal straw and cardboard pictures of ostriches. The other three things that we made were powered by wind and sun and the last thing we made was a solar powered propeller. My favourite thing was the solar powered propeller. At the beginning the lady showed us how to make a wind-up spring and showed us how to make it work. She also showed us a wind-up radio which had a big wind-up spring inside it. They are used a lot in Africa because they don't need batteries or electricity.

On Tuesday 25th March the Primary Fives set off from Lochaline to go to Fort William. We were travelling to Fort William to attend a science work shop at another school. When we arrived we were put at tables and Lisa and I sat next to each other. We were told to make a little wheel. I had a bit of trouble making mine. We talked a bit about flick boos then we had to make something like a flick book. We made a spinning wheel which was like a flick book because we attached pictures inside to make it like a flick book. The children from Fort William school had a break but the children from Lochaline stayed in to make a balloon car. We had a bit of cardboard with wheels attached on two sides, front and back. There's this other bit of cardboard with a hole in the middle. You put a balloon in the hole and blow the balloon up and let it go and the balloon car works. I had a brilliant day at  the workshop.
